Vaughan Geting confirmed as Wales’ new First Minister

Vaughan Gething has been confirmed as the new First Minister of Wales after a vote by the Senate.

Mr. Gethin Elected leader of wales labor on saturday and was declared chief minister Mark Drakeford officially resigned on Tuesday.

He said being the first black leader of a European country was “a matter of pride” and a “difficult responsibility”.

He has the support of 27 members – all Labor members Sened Members present as well as Welsh liberal democrats Leader, Jane Dodds.

former first minister Mr Drakeford Mr. Gethin was nominated for this position.

Plaid Cymru Leader Rhun ap Iorwerth and Leader of Wales conservative Andrew RT Davies was also nominated by his respective party. They received 11 and 13 votes respectively.

In his statement to the Senate, Vaughn Geshin began by paying tribute to his predecessor, Mark Drakeford.

“Thank you so much [Thank you very much] Tag everything you do Wales,” He said.

Mr Gething said he looked forward to “standing up for Wales and supporting devolution in the coming weeks and months”.

“But I welcome the opportunity to work for Wales with a new UK government that is invested in partnerships and the future of Wales,” he added.

He said he would deliver policies “rooted in Welsh values” and “leadership based on hope”.

“It’s easy to not care about identity when your identity is never questioned or hindered,” he said.

“I believe the Wales of today and the future will belong to all decent people who recognize that our Parliament and government should be like our country.”

He ended his statement by saying he wanted to lead “a Wales full of hope, ambition and opportunity”.

Andrew RT Davies said Mr Gethin had “a chance to start over” and called on him to “abolish Labour’s vanity project”.

Rhun ap Iorwerth said there were “ongoing issues” surrounding donations to Vaughan Gething’s campaign which cast a “serious shadow over the First Minister’s office”.

ap Mr Iorwerth, whose party is part of a partnership agreement with the Labor government, said Plaid Cymru would “relentlessly hold the new first minister and his Welsh Labor government to account”.
