Paris:

An American porn actor faced charges of promoting the Iranian government on Monday after he bragged about his trip to the Islamic Republic on social media and posted photos on websites including the shuttered U.S. Embassy.

Iranian authorities have denied being behind Whitney Wright’s visit, saying she was granted a visa like other foreign nationals and that they were unaware of her “obscene” occupation.

Wright is known for her fierce criticism of Iran’s arch-enemy Israel, and her posts particularly angered Iranian exiles because she showed she was serious about adhering to strict Islamic attire for women in the wake of nationwide protests against the mandatory hijab in 2022. specification.

The protests erupted after Mahsa Amini died in police custody in September 2022 after being arrested for allegedly violating dress codes.

“American porn star Whitney Wright is in the country of my birth, Iran, where women are killed for simply showing their hair and being true to themselves,” Masih Aline, a prominent American Iranian dissident Masih Alinejad wrote on X that Whitney Wright was “completely obscured” in the image.

“Iranian women do not want to comply with discriminatory laws,” she added.

From 1979 to 1981, the United States severed diplomatic relations with Iran and closed the U.S. embassy after Islamic militants took staff hostage. Wright posed next to a flagpole with a torn American flag hanging on the ground.

Wearing a long scarf, trousers and a long coat, she kept to the dress code and was a far cry from the usual revealing outfits favored by her one million Instagram followers.

In Tehran, Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser al-Qanani denied any knowledge of her trip but noted that Americans were “not prohibited” from visiting Iran despite political tensions.

A source told Tasnim news agency that she had not been invited by any organization in Iran and that the visa system was “not aware of the nature of her immoral and obscene profession.”

Wright hit back at criticism of her travel photos (which now appear to have been deleted), asking: “Now posting my Iran travel photos means I’m promoting Iranian propaganda?”

“Just sharing what I’m seeing internally and externally.”

Reports in Iran clearly indicate that she has left the country, but it is unclear how long she stayed. She appears to have traveled to the region, posting photos from Egypt, Lebanon and Morocco.

This isn’t the first time a porn star has attracted attention for visiting Iran: in 2016, British adult entertainment performer Candy Charms visited the country to have a nose job.
