Washington:
The Bidens’ dogs have made headlines for their bad behavior, but Willow, the “first feline,” went it alone and published a book.
First lady Jill Biden has written a children’s story about a short-haired tabby cat’s journey from a farm in Pennsylvania to the White House in 2022.
“Willow the White House Cat” is set to be published in June, four months before President Joe Biden faces a fierce political battle for re-election against Donald Trump.
“As Willow jumps from room to room, exploring the history of her new home, she quickly learns all the things that make ‘The People The house’s run by incredible people.”
“Meeting many new friends along the way, Willow’s journey gives the world a ‘cat’s-eye’ look at all the ins and outs of America’s most famous address.”
Willow is the last remaining presidential pet in the White House after the Bidens’ two dogs were removed after a series of biting incidents.
Commander, a German shepherd who arrived as a puppy in 2021, was sent to live elsewhere after biting several Secret Service agents. Another dog of the same breed, Major, was living with family friends after a similar bite incident.
The Bidens’ beloved dog Champ died in 2021 at the age of 13.
At the same time, Willow himself had political talents. Like Jill Biden, she is from Pennsylvania, which will become a key battleground state in November’s election. She was named after the first lady’s hometown of Willow Grove.
Jill Biden, 72, co-wrote the book with author Alyssa Satin Capucilli and illustrated it by artist Kate Berube, the publisher said.
The White House has a long history of keeping presidential pets — though cats are relatively rare — and some of them have had literary journeys.
First ladies Hillary Clinton and Barbara Bush have both written books about pets.
Trump aims to create a buzz in the White House by becoming the first president since Andrew Jackson in the 1830s to not keep pets.
