US and India launch first-ever cybersecurity plan to ensure secure IT connections

The U.S. Consulate, in partnership with the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (MCCIA), has launched the first-ever U.S.-India cybersecurity program to strengthen IT ties between the two countries.

US Consul General Mike Hankey, who was in Pune for the MCCIA Pune Business International Business Summit on Monday, said the initiative aims to unite top global cybersecurity experts, create jobs and develop cutting-edge solutions.

He said the initiative will lead the city into a mentor-apprentice model in cyberspace and will also promote people-to-people connectivity in cyberspace.

He added that the launch is timely as digital technology is advancing faster than at any time in human history.

Hankey emphasized that a secure, resilient and stable cyberspace is critical to the development of the public and private sectors, allowing people around the world to benefit from the free flow of information online.

“Cyber ​​issues are a priority in the US-India bilateral relationship. The challenge facing the United States and India is how to minimize cybersecurity threats and ensure that the digital revolution promotes global prosperity and stability,” he said.

Speaking to the media after the event, CG Hankey said: “We are witnessing extraordinary transformation in artificial intelligence, advanced telecommunications, critical and emerging technologies, bioengineering and energy.”
