A teenage girl was walking on a road in Mathura with a baby in her arms when a boy strolled by, forced a kiss on her mouth, and walked away.

The video of the incident, which took place on Saturday, went viral and saw the Trinamool Congress making pointed comments on the law and order situation in politically high-profile Uttar Pradesh.

“Every day, the rotten underbelly of UP is exposed! In Mathura, a girl from West Bengal faces the horror of public sexual assault while on a religious journey. Is this what NARI SAMMAN of @BJP4UP thinks? ” Posted by Trinamool on X.

Video footage shows the teenage boy, wearing a hat, white shirt, jeans and slippers, stopping the girl, allegedly from Bangladesh, and forcibly kissing her. Then just walk away as if nothing happened. The girl also went on her way.

The locals did not report the matter to the police, but it was handled by the village committee.

“This is the harsh reality of a criminal regime. CM @myogiadityanath, isn’t it? Does Modi’s assurance mean no women are safe?” Trinamool added.

In another video, the boy hits himself on the head with a slipper as punishment for the act. He was also seen folding his hands and apologizing.

A case was registered under Section 294 of the Indian Penal Code which deals with obscenity in public places.

The defendant was not charged with sexual assault.
