UPI facilities upgraded to cafe-style facilities: Kibithu bakery in Far East India to be transformed

Kibithu Bakery in India’s easternmost location is set to undergo a major upgrade. Soon, it will offer visitors cafe-like amenities including UPI payments, enhanced seating, and sophisticated furnishings and décor.

Established by the Indian Army in 2022, the bakery is located in Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh and is currently managed by four women, responsible for food production and sales.

“We have noticed a significant increase in the number of tourists visiting our village since 2022. As a result, our stores receive a considerable number of people every day. Recently, Army officers informed us that they will be upgrading our stores and we will soon also There will be UPI facility,” said Shanti Rai, a staff member at Kibithu Bakery.

Under the Vibrant Villages Program (VVP), Kibitu received new roads, medical facilities, sports centers and mobile towers. Although the village has a population of about 150 people, it is still waiting for 3G/4G connectivity, which is expected to be available by the end of the year. This village on the China-India border has the potential to become a popular tourist destination once the internet becomes available.

According to sources, the bakery will be converted into a cafe at an estimated cost of Rs 30-35 lakh.

“As the highway is under construction, the number of tourists visiting the area has declined. Also, internet connectivity has been an issue but luckily, a tower has been installed to solve the problem. The highway is also nearing completion, to Both the highway and connectivity should be fully operational by June or July. The Indian Army is also working on adding more facilities for tourists by then,” Shanti added.

The woman-run bakery, a symbol of women’s empowerment in “India’s First Village”, earns a handsome salary from its sales. They also plan to expand their product range in the future to meet demand, which currently includes cupcakes, naan, coconut biscuits, butter biscuits, etc.
