Rampur:

A court in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur on Tuesday declared former MP and actress Jaya Prada a “fugitive” in two cases of election code violation and directed the police to arrest her and produce her in the court on March 6.

According to senior prosecution officer Amarnath Tiwari, two cases were registered at Kemri and Swar police stations against the former Rampur MP for violating the model code of conduct during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

The actor was the BJP candidate from Rampur in the 2019 elections and lost to Samajwadi Party’s Azam Khan. She was elected to the Lok Sabha from Rampur on Samajwadi Party ticket in 2004 and 2009. Samajwadi Party had expelled him.

In these cases, the special MP-MLA court had issued summons several times but the former MPs did not appear in the court.

After this, non-bailable warrants were issued against him seven times, but the police could not present him in the court.

He said that the police, in its reply filed in the court, said that Jaya Prada is evading arrest and all her known mobile numbers are switched off.

Shri Tiwari told that on this, Judge Shobhit Bansal took a strict stance and declared Jaya Prada a fugitive.

Rampur Superintendent of Police was ordered to form a team led by a circle officer and arrest Jaya Prada and produce her in the court on the next date of hearing on March 6.
