UP: 14 arrested for cheating in ongoing police recruitment exam in Ballia

Police have arrested 14 people for allegedly cheating in the constable recruitment exam in Ballia district, officials said on Sunday.

They said this included 11 members of three gangs, including a forest department and a health department technician, and three men who allegedly took the exam while posing as candidates.

Ballia police chief Dev Ranjan Verma said police have busted three gangs that allegedly tried to disrupt the ongoing police recruitment exam and arrested 14 people.

Those arrested include Abhay Kumar Srivastava, a laboratory technician from the Sultanpur district health department, and Fateh Bahadur, a police constable from the forest department in Katni district of Madhya Pradesh, he said Fatehbahadur Rajbhar.

Police also arrested three people who allegedly took the exam on behalf of registered candidates.

In Gonda district, police arrested three persons in connection with the police recruitment process, including one for posing as a candidate.

Kundan Kumar Chaudhary, a resident of Bihar’s Nalanda district, was rescued on Saturday evening with the help of local police, Gonda police chief Vineet Jaiswal said. He was arrested at an examination center in Nawabganj town.

He conducted the test on behalf of Tanmay Singh, a resident of Mankapur police station area in the district. The SP said that both Tanmay and Harendra Kumar had applied for the police recruitment process and the two were arrested on Sunday.

The SP said that an agreement of Rs 6 lakh has been finalized between Chaudhry and the two candidates. He sat for the examination in the second shift at an examination center in Nawab Ganj on Saturday in place of Tanmay and on Sunday he will sit in the examination in place of Harendra at another examination center in Gonda city.

Jaiswal added that a case has been registered against the trio at the Nawabganj police station.

More than 100 people have been arrested across Uttar Pradesh in the past two days for impersonating police officers to recruit exam candidates and cheating, officials said on Saturday.

A total of 122 people were arrested, including 15 from Etah, nine each from Mau, Prayagraj and Siddharth Nagar, and eight from Ghazipur, Director General of Police Prashant Kumar said on Saturday. people, 7 in Azamgarh, 6 in Gorakhpur and 5 in Gorakhpur. 4 in Jaunpur, Firozabad, 3 each in Kaushambi and Hathras, 2 each in Jhansi, Varanasi, Agra and Kanpur, and 1 each in Ballia, Deoria and Bijnor.

Kumar also conducted surprise inspections at two examination centers in Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar area. He said more than 48 lakh candidates will appear in the exam to be held in two shifts on February 17 and 18.
