Islamabad:

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) recently added Pakistan to a list of countries it considers “too dangerous” for British citizens to travel to, Geo News reported.

In its latest report, FCDO reminded that the organization had updated the list and added eight new countries.

According to Geo News, the total number of banned destinations is 24 according to the latest FCDO alert.

The FCDO’s alerts cover a range of issues that pose threats to visitor safety, including crime, war, terrorism, disease, weather conditions and natural disasters, Geo News reported, citing the Manchester Evening News.

In addition, the new countries include Russia, Ukraine, Israel, Iran, Sudan, Lebanon, Belarus, the Palestinian territories and other countries involved in conflicts.

Meanwhile, countries on the blacklist include Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Chad, Haiti, Iraq, Israel, Lebanon, Libya, Mali, Niger, North Korea, Somalia, Somaliland, South Sudan, Syria, Venezuela and Yemen.

In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a red list, Geo News reported.

Countries included on the red list represent areas where travel should be avoided “unless absolutely necessary”.

It added: “If you plan to travel somewhere from the UK, please remember not to visit countries on the blacklist or countries on the red list.”

According to the Dawn newspaper, 789 terrorist attacks and counter-terrorism operations occurred in Pakistan in 2023, resulting in 1,524 violent deaths and 1,463 injuries, including nearly 1,000 deaths of civilians and security force personnel.

In addition, the overall death toll, including criminals, hit a six-year high, surpassing 2018 levels and being the highest since 2017.

Violence in the country has reportedly surged for the third consecutive year, rising every year starting in 2021.
