Uddhav Thackeray targets civic body chiefs over ‘administrative fraud’

Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray on Friday asked why the government did not take action against Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal over the civic body’s alleged Take action against fraud.

Addressing a gathering of party workers in neighboring Raigad district, he slammed the BJP-led alliance government for unfairly targeting his party leaders, accusing the BMC of financial irregularities in procurement amid the coronavirus pandemic. .

The former chief minister of Maharashtra claimed that Chahal signed the documents in many such cases.

“Why has the commissioner not been arrested? Because he is with you now? Any scam happening in Mumbai is an administrative scam,” Thackeray said.

Sena Party (UBT) leader and former mayor Kishori Pednekar was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate earlier this week over an alleged scam in purchasing body bags amid the pandemic.

Chahal, who has been the BMC administrator since his term in the elected body expired in March 2022, will present the budget of the country’s richest civic body on Friday, “which he will pass himself,” Thackeray said quipped.

The BMC on Friday presented a budget of Rs 59,954 crore for 2024-25.
