Two men found guilty of stabbing footballer to death on nightclub dance floor

Two men have been found guilty of murdering footballer Cody Fisher, who was stabbed to death in a Birmingham nightclub on Boxing Day 2022.

Remy Gordon and Cammy Carpenter accused each other of stabbing the 23-year-old former Birmingham City academy player, who died at the scene from a chest injury.

The 10-week trial heard Mr Fisher was attacked with a weapon smuggled through security into Digbeth’s Crane nightclub two days earlier in a pre-planned “act of revenge” over a minor incident.

Jurors at Birmingham Crown Court were told Gordon, of Coffton Park Avenue, Birmingham, was leaving a club in Solihull on Christmas Eve when Fisher was There was a brief “unavoidable” contact with his back before he orchestrated a “horrible revenge”.

Gordon, 23, was also found guilty of affray, while Carpenter, 22, was found guilty of murder by a 10-1 majority but acquitted of murder in connection with the attack on Fisher at the Crane Hotel Mr. Er’s friend.

Co-accused Reegan Anderson, 19, of no fixed address, was found not guilty of murder and not guilty of manslaughter but guilty of affray and was bailed until a sentencing hearing after Easter.

Mr Fisher has played as a defender for a number of clubs, most recently with Stratford Town Football Club.

Some family members in the public gallery rushed out of the courtroom in tears as the jury delivered its verdict after more than 28 hours of deliberations on Monday afternoon.

Following the murder, Cody’s girlfriend Jess Chatwin paid a heartfelt tribute on social media, calling the footballer her “best friend”.

She wrote: “I’m so sorry my baby, you didn’t deserve to be treated like this.

“My whole world, the love of my life, my best friend. I don’t know how I would live without you.”

She continued: “There are a lot of things we will never get the chance to do now.

“I promise to do whatever it takes to get you the justice you deserve.

“This doesn’t feel real. I love you forever Cody Fisher.”
