Two Indian students studying at Scotland’s University of Dundee were killed in an accident at a Scottish waterfall, British news portal The Courier reported.

The victims, Jitendranath ‘Jitu’ Karuturi, 26, and Chanhakya Bolisetti, 22, were hiking with friends near the scenic Linn of Tummel Falls in Blair Athol on Wednesday (April 17).

They reportedly fell into the water while trying to take photos.

Jitu and Chanhakya are both studying for a Masters in Data Science and Engineering at the University of Dundee.

The two friends, both from India, were hiking with another friend when they fell into the water.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “At around 7pm on Wednesday we received reports that two men, aged 22 and 26, were in the water at the Linn of Tummel Falls near Blair Athol. Emergency services attended At the scene, the bodies of two men were recovered from the water following a search of the area. Investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, but there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the deaths. A report will be submitted to the Public Prosecutor Fiscal. The Chronicle reported.

Jitu studied in the United States and worked at Taza Indian Buffet in Dundee.

His manager Vaseem Salimi describes him as calm, reliable and hard-working. He said: “Everyone is very sad, Jitu is really popular with everyone.”

Chanhakya graduated in 2022 from JNTUH College of Engineering, Hyderabad.

A spokesman for the University of Dundee told The Courier: “This is a tragic accident that has devastated us all and our thoughts are with the student’s family and friends.”
