A truck plunged into a ravine in Goa, killing one person and seriously injuring 13 others, police said on Sunday, as Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who was passing the scene, rushed to the aid of the victims.
The accident occurred near Kuipem town in South Goa district on Saturday evening.
Mr Sawant and state Social Welfare Minister Subhash Pal Desai, who were passing by the spot after attending a poll event, got out of their cars to help the victims.
Sawant, an Ayurvedic doctor, checked the victim’s pulse while Far Desai entered the valley and helped rescue the victim from the accident vehicle.

A senior police officer said the victim was sitting on the bed of the truck.
He said the driver lost control of the wheels and the truck swerved and plunged into a ravine, trapping the victim inside.
He said one person died on the spot and 13 others were seriously injured, including five children, three men and three women.
Mr Sawant took part in the rescue effort along with Minister Pal Desai as well as police, fire and emergency services personnel and locals.
The injured were rescued from the truck and Faral Desai accompanied them and shifted them in ambulances and police vehicles to Goa Medical College and Hospital near Panaji, the official said.
