On Virat Kohli’s strike-rate debate, Gautam Gambhir’s million-dollar reaction cricket news

By | Published | No Comments

Two of the most talked about personalities of cricket, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli made the most headlines after their on-field brawl in the last season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Gambhir and Kohli came face to face on the field over the sledging incident with Lucknow Super Giants fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq. However, as Gambhir, as the mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders, saw his team face off against Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) this season, fans’ hopes were dashed after seeing the two embrace each other on the field. Gambhir did not hesitate in openly saying that people need ‘masala’.

“It’s all about TRP. The media hasn’t got a clue what kind of person I am, what kind of person Virat is. The media only wants publicity. But publicity can be created in a positive way too.” Gambhir said while summarizing the public opinion on his relationship with Virat on Star Sports.

After Kohli-Gambhir’s hug at IPL 2024, the RCB star candidly said that people did not get to see what they wanted, and hence, they were “disappointed”. Gambhir agreed with Virat’s sentiments.

“I absolutely support what Virat said. Log ka masala nahi mila toh (gossip is over for people). As I said, when two people are mature enough, I don’t think anyone Neither has any right to interfere between them.” People’s lives or their relationships because ultimately, it is between the two of them,” Gambhir said on the subject.

Gambhir also humorously praised Kohli’s dancing skills and said, “I can’t do a single move even if I want to. So if I have to learn something from Virat, it would be his dance moves.”

The Kolkata Knight Riders mentor also gave his expert opinion on the ongoing discussion regarding the strike-rate of the batsmen in this campaign, especially in relation to Virat Kohli.

“Every player’s game is different. What Maxwell can do, Kohli can’t do and what Kohli can do, Maxwell can’t do. You have to have different types of batsmen in your eleven. If from No. 1 to Till number 8 you pile it on, Gambhir said, explosive batsmen, you can score 300 runs but can also get out for 30 runs.

For the former Indian star, the understanding of strike-rate is subjective, depending on the demands of the game.

Gambhir asserted, “When you win, even a strike rate of 100 is good. But when you lose despite a strike rate of 180, no one talks about it. This is the reality.”
