'Irrelevant scrap of paper': S Jaishankar mocks Congress manifesto

Jaishankar said that this election is extremely important.

Bangalore:

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said on Monday there was no need to worry about the Congress party’s election manifesto as it would become a dead letter and meaningless after the BJP’s victory in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The Union minister said this while responding to a question on the Congress’ claim that “if the BJP gets 400 seats, it will change the constitution”.

EAM Jaishankar said it was a matter of joy that the Congress agreed with the BJP to cross the 400-seat mark this time.

“We will use these 400 seats to take the country forward. When you see the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government with more than 400 seats, you will see that we are delivering more to the people of India, “Said Jaishankar.

“From Jawaharlal Nehru to Narendra Modi, prime ministers are the leaders of the country. How can you (referring to Rahul Gandhi) say you will not accept leaders? Rahul Gandhi disrespected former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during the UPA regime. Do you think you are bigger than the Prime Minister because the party is a family business?” asked the Union Minister.

Talking about the BJP’s hopes for south India in the upcoming elections, EAM Jaishankar said his party is “genuinely optimistic”.

“The public response that Prime Minister Modi has received in Tamil Nadu and Kerala has been phenomenal. We are in a good position in Karnataka and making good progress in Telangana.

“Most importantly, the vote we are seeking in the southern states is not just a vote for the manifesto but a vote for our track record and achievements over the past decade. We have delivered food, power, water, infrastructure and education. When you look at When you look at our track record, you will strengthen us because we have bigger things to do and the people of these states are part of the impact of everything that has happened in this decade,” said EAM Jaishankar.

He further said: “This election is very important. We have a 10-year foundation. We plan to do some really big things in the third term.”
