The ‘hardest old man’ reveals his scariest moment during a grueling 352-day run across Africa.

Russ Cook told a news conference that during a 9,941-mile journey that saw him visit 16 countries, his biggest fear was “sitting on the back of a motorcycle in the Congo and thinking I was going to die.” .

The 27-year-old has raised £700,000 for good causes and plans to raise £1 million.

Donations will be used to support young people going through difficult times, as well as educational and cultural projects in Algerian refugee camps.

When asked what inspired him to run the equivalent of 376 marathons, Cook said motivation was his family and the legacy he would pass on if he had children.

During the live Q&A session, he was also asked about the behind-the-scenes logistics of his long journey… including how he would shower.

“Not often,” Cook quipped, adding that everything from rivers, lakes, bucket baths to makeshift showers in the back of four-wheel drives are used to maintain basic hygiene.
