Toronto has once again topped Orkin Canada’s annual list of the country’s “most beautiful” cities, cementing its reputation as the country’s rodent capital.

The pest control company released its 2025 rankings this week, which are based on the number of commercial and residential rodent treatments conducted between Aug. 1, 2024, and July 31, 2025.

Toronto overtook Victoria to take the top spot, while Vancouver, Burnaby and Richmond rounded out the top five.

Here’s how to keep rodents away

With the increase in rodent activity, Orkin Canada is reminding residents of simple steps to take to prevent rats and mice from turning homes into their playgrounds.

  • Prune trees and shrubs: Keep vegetation at least one meter away from the building exterior to remove hiding places.
  • Eliminate water sources: Fix leaking drains, clean water from containers and solve moisture problems.
  • Observe the signs: Keep an eye out for feces, burrows, gnaw marks, or rub marks on the walls.
  • Seal Entry Point: Seal cracks larger than 1/4 inch and install weather stripping on doors.
  • Maintain cleanliness: Keep food in sealed containers, clean up crumbs immediately and avoid leaving utensils out overnight.
