Trinamool Congress leader Shahjahan Sheikh did not appear before Enforcement Directorate (ED) sleuths on Monday despite being summoned for questioning in the probe into the multi-crore ration distribution scam, a senior official said . He said ED personnel waited for Sheikh till late at night at the investigating agency’s office at the CGO complex.

“We have summoned him to appear before our officials for questioning. However, he did not appear,” the police officer told PTI.

Sheikh has been absconding and the Education Department issued a lookout notice to him earlier this month.

The official said the central agency has obtained the call list of Sheikh’s mobile phone and further investigation is underway. On January 24, the ED sealed his residence at Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal following a search operation in connection with the scam.

On January 5, a team of ED officials were also attacked by goons while trying to enter the residence of a TMC leader.
