Three people have been arrested on suspicion of assisting RussiaIntelligence service of.
metropolitan police Said three men, aged 44, 45 and 48, were arrested at addresses in West and Central London on Thursday by Counter Terrorism Policing detectives.
He was detained under Section 3 of the National Security Act, which covers conduct that would “materially assist a foreign intelligence service in carrying out activities relating to the United Kingdom”.
A person convicted under Section 3 can be punished with a maximum of 14 years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
The force said the men are now in police custody at a London station.
As well as the London address, another address in the west of the city is also being searched.
“We are seeing an increasing number of people we would describe as ‘proxies’ who are being recruited by foreigners intelligence services And these arrests relate directly to our ongoing efforts to disrupt this type of activity,” said Commander Dominic Murphy, head of Counter Terrorism Policing London.
“Anyone in the UK who might be approached and tempted to carry out criminal activity on behalf of a foreign state should think again.
“Such activity will be investigated and anyone found involved may be prosecuted and there will be potentially very serious consequences for those found guilty.”
