Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode metro lines are about to come online, and the government has allocated Rs 239 cr for the second phase of Kozhi

In a revolutionary move, the state government has allocated Rs 239 crore to facilitate implementation of local transport and metro rail projects in Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram. The development comes as the state submits its 2024-25 budget.

It is reported that the allocation of this fund will speed up the progress of pending tasks and contribute to the ongoing construction of railway projects. The funds will also benefit the ongoing construction of the second phase of the Kochi Metro Line, which will connect the JLN Stadium to Kakkanad.

Among them, the construction of the third phase of the line from Aluva to Nedumbassery will also be affected by the allocation of funds and will help it speed up the progress of the project.

While confirming the news, Finance Minister KN Balagopal said that authorities expect the state government to give a green signal for the Thiruvananthapuram Metro Rail project soon. He also said that the government may treat commuters through the K-Rail project as the management is in talks with the Centre.

Meanwhile, KMRL plans to complete the second phase of the metro line early next year. Without further delay, general consulting has been assigned to a team consisting of Systra and Systra MVA Consulting India Pvt Ltd, while detailed design consulting has been assigned to Egis India.
