“The United Nations should condemn”: Whistleblower gives “special care” to China

'UN should condemn': Whistleblower gives China 'special favors'

New Delhi:

A former employee of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights claims that the OHCHR “secretly provided advance information (about the family) to China” – as part of a publicly acknowledged policy – regarding participation in China’s Human Rights Council person’s information.

The whistleblower also alleged that senior U.N. officials, including Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and two former U.N. General Assembly presidents, received bribes. The latter two, who had significant influence on the final text, were paid during the protracted negotiations on the SDGs. There are also claims that China has imposed “secret conditions” on U.N. agencies that bribes cannot be used for countries that have diplomatic relations with Taiwan.

Emma Reilly, who spoke to New Delhi TV on Wednesday, claimed that “in providing names to China… deputies reported that family members visited by Chinese police… were arbitrarily arrested (and) placed under house arrest for a period of time” “. conference… were sentenced to long prison terms, torture or, in the case of Uyghurs, concentration camps without justification.”

She also claimed that “in some cases, family members have died in custody, and in at least one case a person on China’s list attended a side event and later returned… and died in custody”.

“Some of them, whose details were leaked without consent, gave evidence in my court case… about what happened to their families after their names were handed over,” she said.

“The United Nations should condemn this behavior… rather than facilitate it,” Ms Reilly added.

Ms Reilly told NDTV that she was “fired for speaking out about the policy”, noting that she was not accused of lying at any point when asked whether she held a grudge about being fired.

“I worked at the United Nations for 10 years… starting in 2013, I started to expose the influence of the Chinese Communist Party on the United Nations Secretariat. I worked in the United Nations Human Rights Office, and you would think that the human rights situation there would be very bad.” But in fact, , the office is secretly transmitting the names of people who will speak out against the Chinese government. “

“This started in 2006… and continues to this day based on the UN’s position in open courts and in public,” Ms Reilly told New Delhi TV. “The United Nations publicly acknowledged this in court…these judgments are public.”

Ms. Reilly’s whistleblowing efforts were bogged down by an internal policy that prohibited employees from criticizing agency policies. “This is the case even if it (the policy) constitutes criminal conspiracy to torture… criminal conspiracy to commit arbitrary detention. The United Nations said I have no right to speak out…”

Ms Reilly told NDTV that the judge in her case made the same point.

“…She found every statement I made – about the UN handing over names to the Chinese government – to be true. Nonetheless, she said there was a rule that said no UN staff member could criticize the Secretary-General’s policies -General, she said this policy was dangerous, but…”
