CNN reported that on Tuesday (local time), the US administration announced that 2,000 National Guard members, who were deployed in response to a wide month -long immigration protest, were being withdrawn from the Los Angeles area, CNN said.
According to CNN, the security situation was improved in Los Angeles, citing Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell, which ordered the release of members of the 79th Infantry Brigade Brigade team of California National Guard from this federal mission.
Parnell said in a statement, “Thanks to our soldiers, who stepped in to answer the call, is unrighteous in Los Angeles … Thus, the Secretary has ordered the release of 2,000 California National Guardsman (79th IBCT) from the Federal Protection Mission.”
The National Guard was activated amidst increasing immigration enforcement by the Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Homeland Security in Southern California.
According to CNN, in various parts of Los Angeles County, especially protesting protests around the city, where federal law enforcement activity was highly visible.
A federal district judge had earlier ruled that Trump had illegally made the National Guard soldiers of California federal. However, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals temporarily removed the decision, while legal proceedings are on, CNN said.
California Governor Gavin Newsom replied to a full return, criticizing continuous deployment as a political step.
“For more than a month, the National Guard has been pulled away from their families, communities and citizens to serve as a political pawn for the President in Los Angeles. While about 2,000 of them are starting to demobbils, the remaining guard continues without a mission, without a mission and without any hope to help his communities,” said the CENN.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass welcomed the deficiency, referring to it as a “retreat” operated by local resistance. Bass said she hopes that this would begin the entire return.
“I hope the administration heard that … our soldiers are trained to fight to kill foreign enemies in foreign land. There was never any need for them before. And now there is no need for them,” he said during a press conference, as is quoted by CNN.
Although the protests have reduced to a great extent, immigration raids continue in the region.
Last week, ICE agents conducted two raids on legal cannabis fields in Southern California, arrested more than 300 persons. CNN reported that one person died and many others were injured in the process.
On Friday, a federal judge ruled that the Homeland Security was conducting stops and arrests without a possible cause in Los Angeles, ordering agents to detain individuals on the basis of race, language or job.
CNN reported that the decision prosecuted by the American Civil Liberty Union of Southern California, who accused unconstitutional arrests and denying the prisoners of legal reach.
In response, Mayor Bass issued instructions to the city employees, directing them to provide access to federal agents with only valid arrest warrants and to ensure that the departments are ready with response plans for future raids. (AI)
