Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, has delivered grim news of a cancer diagnosis, quelling social media speculation about her absence from the public eye. While the British royal has been undergoing chemotherapy since abdominal surgery in January, her public announcement came two months later, and her young children may have been the reason for the delay.
Kate revealed in a video message that she and her husband, Prince William, wanted to handle the news privately for the sake of their “young family.”
The announcement was timed to coincide with school holidays for the young royals – Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5 – who have been away from the public eye at the time of the announcement.

“We took some time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that suited them and reassured them that I would be fine. As I said to them; I am fine and getting better every day Stronger.’ Focus every day on things that help me heal; in my mind, body and spirit,” she said.
Kate, who has not been seen in public since Christmas, described the diagnoses as a “huge shock” and asked for privacy while she completes preventive chemotherapy.
“We hope you can understand that as a family we need some time, space and privacy right now while I complete my treatment,” she said.
After abdominal surgery in January, Kensington Palace issued a statement saying that Kate was expected to resume official duties after Easter on March 31. However, Kate has now said she will only return to work once she has fully recovered.
She said: “My work has always brought me deep joy and I look forward to returning when I am able, but for now I must focus on making a full recovery.”
