Officials said on Thursday after crashed near Ahmedabad Airport on Thursday that Indian Army teams with around 130 personnel have been deployed to assist civil administration in the ongoing humanitarian aid and disaster relief (HADR) efforts.
A statement by the Indian Army stated that response teams include Prithvi Movers, doctors and paramedics, quick action teams (qats), fire-fighting assets with fire fight assets, and provost staff for site management for evacuation of debris.
The army said that the military hospital in the area has also been placed on standby.
Air India flight, Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, was carrying 242 people, including 12 crew members, while it crashed before the take-off of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport before this afternoon.
Western Railway said it has sent its disaster management team to assist the Gujarat government and other agencies involved in relief and rescue efforts, along with medical personnel and RPF employees.
The Gujarat government has gathered three teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), including 90 personnel, which is to assist in rescue operations from Gandhinagar to Crash Site.
According to senior police officials, the aircraft crashed in a doctor’s hostel located just outside the circumference of the airport.
Ahmedabad Joint Commissioner Jaipur Singh Rathore, Ahmedabad told reporters, “After the takeoff, the aircraft crashed here and after the initial investigation, we came to know that … the aircraft crashed into a building, a doctor hostel.”
According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the London-bound Air India flight crashed in Meghani Nagar area of Ahmedabad at 01:38 am after the takeoff. (AI)
