The new idol of Ram Lalla, revered at the Gram Ram temple in Ayodhya, will be known as “Child Ram” as it depicts the Lord in a standing posture as a five-year-old boy. The 51-inch statue of the deity was consecrated in a grand ceremony on Monday led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who said it marks the arrival of a new era.

“The idol of Lord Ram, which was consecrated on January 22, has been named ‘Balak Ram’. The reason why Lord Ram’s idol has been named ‘Balak Ram’ is because he looks like a child who is five years old,” news agency PTI quoted Arun Dixit, the priest involved in the consecration ceremony, as saying.

The Varanasi-based priest, who has conducted around 50-60 abhishekas, said, “Out of all the abhishekas conducted so far, this one is the most ‘alokaik (divine)’ and ‘savrochha’ (supreme) for me. ,

Dixit, who had the first glimpse of the statue on January 18, said, “The first time I saw the statue, I was thrilled and tears started streaming down my face. I cannot describe the feeling I felt at that time.”

Meanwhile, the old idol of Ram Lalla, which was earlier kept in a temporary temple, has also been placed in front of the new idol.

The blue sculpture, designed by sculptor Arun Yogiraj, is carved from three billion-year-old Krishna shale (black schist) rock quarried from Gujjegoudanapura in Jayapura Hobli in HD Kote taluk of Mysore.

It is a fine to medium grained, sky-blue metamorphic rock, commonly called soapstone because of its smooth surface texture and is ideal for sculptors to create sculptures.

The Krishna stone was found while leveling the agricultural land of Ramdas (78) and a local contractor, who had assessed the quality of the stone, brought it to the attention of the temple trustees in Ayodhya through his contacts.

Yogiraj, who has received immense praise for his work, said, “I have always felt that Lord Ram was protecting me and my family from all the bad times and I firmly believe that it was He who saved me from auspicious work. Was chosen for.”

“I spent sleepless nights working on the sculpture with precision, but it was all worth it. I feel like I am the luckiest person on earth and today is the best day of my life. I learned the art of sculpture from my father. He would have been very proud to see my statue here today,” he said.

According to Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra, the jewelery for the idol has been designed after intensive research and study of texts like Adhyatma Ramayana, Valmiki Ramayana, Ramcharitmanas and Alavandar Stotram.

The idol is decorated with Banarasi cloth, consisting of a yellow dhoti and a red ‘pataka’ or ‘angavastram’. The ‘Angavastram’ is decorated with ‘Jari’ and threads of pure gold, with auspicious Vaishnava symbols – ‘Shankha’, ‘Padma’, ‘Chakra’ and ‘Mayur’.

While the jewelery has been created by Ankur Anand’s Lucknow-based Harsahaymal Shyamlal Jewellers, the costumes have been created by Delhi-based textile designer Manish Tripathi, who worked from Ayodhya Dham for the project.

The idols of Ram Lalla for the grand temple were created by three sculptors – Ganesh Bhatt, Yogiraj and Satyanarayan Pandey. The temple trust said one of the three will be kept in the sanctum sanctorum while the other two will be kept in other parts of the temple.
