Teenager charged with attempted murder after stabbing on Beckenham train

A teenager has been charged with attempted murder after a stabbing on a train in south London.

Rakeem Thomas, 19, has also been charged with possession of an offensive weapon following a knife attack in Beckenham on Wednesday.

Thomas was remanded in custody and will appear at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

British Transport Police (BTP) said they received reports of a fight between two men between Beckenham and Shortlands train stations at around 4pm on Wednesday. Video shared on social media shows a man wearing a black hooded jacket, black pants and a mask holding a large blade.

The victim, who is in his 20s, was taken to hospital in critical but stable condition. Train services in the area were disrupted until around 6.30pm.

Chief Constable Darren Malpass said: “We understand the public’s concerns about this incident and our detectives have been working tirelessly to investigate. I hope this arrest will bring some comfort to people on the rail network.”
