With technological variations, the Punch EV targets strategic competition, positioned between the Tiago EV MR and Nexon EV MR, which is expected to be in the price range of Rs 10-13 lakh.

Tata Motors is set to launch its fourth electric vehicle (EV) Tata Punch EVTomorrow in India.

Punch EV will be offered in four variants: Adventure, Smart, Empowered and Empowered+. Bookings for the Punch EV began earlier this month with a nominal starting price of Rs 21,000.

Tata Motors is already present in the electric vehicle segment with models like Tata Nexon EV, Tata Tigor EV and Tata Tiago EV.

The Punch EV is built on Tata’s latest pure EV architecture, acti.ev (Advanced Connected Tech-Intelligent Electric Vehicle). This new acti.ev modular platform is estimated to provide a range of 300-600 kilometers depending on the specific model and battery configuration.

A range of 300-400 km seems reasonable for the Punch EV. As reported by Autocar, the platform marks a substantial enhancement over the Gen 1 architecture and incorporates significant changes compared to the internal combustion engine (ICE) platform.

Of all the Tata EVs, the design of the Punch EV stands out the most from its ICE counterpart. The front end is modeled after the Nexon EV, and it looks like a reduced-scale version of that vehicle in many ways.

It features a new full-width LED light bar, a front bumper with a faux silver skid plate and a split headlamp arrangement with trapezoidal housing for the main cluster. Additionally, there is a dual-tone rear bumper and new alloy wheels, but the side profile and rear remain largely unchanged. It also has the first frunk on a Tata EV.

The Tata Punch EV will feature an all-new 10.25-inch touchscreen and digital instrument cluster, a new two-spoke steering wheel and a jeweled rotary drive selector in the center console. A teaser image on Tata’s website also points to a brand new HVAC control panel with toggle switches and haptic buttons, similar to the Nexon EV.

The top-spec Punch EV will include a 360-degree camera, leatherette seats, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, connected car technology, a wireless charger, ventilated front seats, cruise control, a sunroof and the new Arcade EV app suite. , Some of these features are unique to a vehicle of this size.

In terms of technical specifications, the Punch EV will be available in two variants: Standard and Long Range, with battery packs of 25kWh and 35kWh respectively. The former only gets a 3.3kW AC charger, while the latter gets a 7.2kW AC charger that also supports DC fast charging.

Tata Punch EV is strategically set to compete with the Citroen eC3. It will be positioned between the Tiago EV MR and the Nexon EV MR, indicating an estimated price range of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom).
