Sunil Bharti Mittal receives honorary knighthood from King Charles

Bharti Enterprises founder and chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal was awarded an honorary knighthood by King Charles III in the United Kingdom. Mr Mittal is the first Indian to receive a knighthood from King Charles.

He was awarded Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. The KBE is one of the highest honors awarded to civilians by the British Sovereign. It is an honorary degree awarded to foreign nationals.

Sunil Bharti Mittal said, “I am deeply humbled by this honorable recognition from His Majesty, King Charles. The UK and India have historic relations, which are now entering a new era of growing cooperation and collaboration.”

“I am committed to working towards strengthening the economic and bilateral trade relations between our two great countries. I am grateful to the UK Government, whose support and keen attention to business needs has been vital in making the country an attractive investment destination,” he added.

Sunil Bharti Mittal was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third highest civilian honour, in 2007. He served as the Chairman of the B20 India Action Council on African Economic Integration during India’s G20 Presidency. He is also a serving Commissioner on the International Telecommunication Union/UNESCO Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development.
