Public broadcaster NHK said the Japanese Coast Guard received a distress signal from Japan. Sun Guorongthe ship tilted due to strong waves while anchoring near Mutsure Island.

When the Coast Guard vessel arrived, the capsized boat had overturned. There were eleven people on board.

Rescue teams found one person alive while the search continues for the two missing crew members. The crew included two Koreans, eight Indonesians and one Chinese, according to the Japan Coast Guard.

Officials said the tanker was carrying 980 tons of acrylic acid, which is used in paints, floor polishes, personal care products and cleaners. So far, there is no evidence of acid leaking into the water.
