Sonia Gandhi, Ashwini Vaishnaw and other 14 people sworn in as members of the Lok Sabha

New Delhi:

14 people including former Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vishno were sworn in as members of the House of Representatives today.

Vice President and Chairman of the House of Federation Jagdeep Dhankhar presided over their oath-taking ceremony at the New Parliament House.

Sonia Gandhi was sworn in as a member of the Upper House of Rajasthan, while Vaishnaw was sworn in as a member of the Upper House of Odisha.

Congress leaders Ajay Maken and Syed Naseer Hussain from Karnataka, BJP leader RPN Singh from Uttar Pradesh and Samik Bhattacharya, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party from West Bengal, were among the 14 people sworn in.

Sanjay Kumar Jha of the JD(U) was also sworn in as a member of the party in Bihar, Subhashish Khuntia and Debashish Samantaray of the BJD were sworn in as party members in Odisha, and Madan Rathore of the BJP was sworn in as a member of the RS representing Rajasthan. .

YSRCP leaders Golla Baburao, Meda Raghunadha Reddy and Yerram Venkata Subba Reddy and BRS leader Ravi Chandra Vaddiraju from Telangana also took oath as members representing Andhra Pradesh.

Later, they took photos with the President of the Federal Council.

The term of the members from Odisha and Rajasthan will begin from Thursday, the Lok Sabha secretariat said. All others begin their terms on Wednesday.

Sonia Gandhi became a member of the Rajya Sabha for the first time. She took the oath in the presence of House Leader Piyush Goyal and Congress President and Leader of Opposition in the Union House Mallikarjun Kharge.

Her daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was also present at her swearing-in ceremony.

Rajya Sabha Vice Chairman Harivansh and General Secretary PC Mody were also present.
