A Somali man has been charged with murder for allegedly killing his Swedish girlfriend, who was seven months pregnant. Mohamedamin Abdirisek Ibrahim, 22, allegedly committed the crime to avoid being introduced to her strict Muslim family.

The victim was 20-year-old Saga Forsgren Elneborg, who was found dead in her home in Örebro in April 2023. According to LBC, Ibrahim is currently facing charges of “honor killing”.

Prosecutor Elizabeth Anderson said Ibrahim killed his girlfriend “by compressing her neck, affecting the blood supply to her trachea and head, suffocating and strangling her”. The unborn baby was also killed in the attack,” the report added.

A 1,000-page arrest report included photos of the crime scene, which also showed a light cord. The prosecutor added, “This murder occurred in the context of honor because the man wanted to preserve or restore his and his family’s honor by killing the woman who was pregnant with their child.”

The report adds that according to prosecutors, Ibrahim was raised to believe “he could not date white women.”

“He had to date women of the same cultural background. If he didn’t, he was excluded,” prosecutors revealed.

Prosecutors also revealed that Ms Erneberg and Ibrahim had been in a relationship for two years, but he hid this from his mother.

Text messages between the couple revealed that Ibrahim planned to tell his family about the pregnancy but was nervous about it, local outlet Afton Bladet reported.

Ibrahim texted his girlfriend: “It feels like I can almost feel my heartbeat all the way up to the walls of my stomach,” to which Ms. Erneberg replied, “Relax, it’s going to be okay, baby.”

Prosecutors clarified that Ibrahim did not tell his family anything about his girlfriend’s pregnancy, even though she planned to move in with him a week later, the report added.

Ibrahim reportedly texted her after learning of the pregnancy: “I know we can make it work, but I can’t keep my family. If I could, keeping the baby wouldn’t be a problem.” socket.

Afton Blade reports that Ms. Erneberg’s last message to Ibrahim was sent just after midnight on April 29, when she wrote: “Baby, talk to me.”

Shortly after receiving her message, Ibrahim allegedly went to her home and strangled her, according to prosecutors.

Erneberg’s mother told a Swedish media outlet, “She is very happy. She is about to move to a new apartment and start her journey as a mother. This is the worst thing imaginable.”
