Snowfall and rain continued to lash parts of Uttarakhand on Thursday night, adding to the cold, according to the Meteorological Department. The MeT said the temperature is likely to plummet by 4-5 degrees Celsius due to continued snowfall and rain.

Snowfall continued in the upper reaches of Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Teri and Dehradun districts on Thursday, while intermittent showers occurred in the lower reaches. The MeT has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain, snowfall and thunderstorms in remote areas of Uttarakhand hilly areas for 24 hours starting Wednesday night.
The Meteorological Department said that current meteorological analysis and weather forecast models indicate that an active western disturbance is likely to affect Uttarakhand between January 31 and February 1.
