Smriti Irani and Rahul Gandhi to perform in Amethi on Monday

Last updated: February 18, 2024 23:28 UTC

Union Minister Smriti Irani will be on a four-day visit to Amethi parliamentary constituency starting Monday, on the day of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Chodo Nyayat Ra will enter Uttar Pradesh towns.

Gandhi represented Amiti in the Lok Sabha for 15 years before being defeated by Irani in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

This is perhaps the only second time since 2019 that the two leaders have visited Amethi at the same time. They came to the town at the same time in February 2022 to take part in different campaigns ahead of the parliamentary polls.

Irani’s representative Vijay Gupta said the minister will stay in her constituency for four days, during which she will interact with residents of several villages and attend a housewarming ceremony on February 22.

Before being elected from Amici, she promised voters that she would build a house in the town and become a resident.

According to Congress leaders, the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra will reach Amethi on Monday. Gandhi will hold roadshows and public rallies in Amethi town.

Officials with knowledge of the tentative schedule said the chances of the two leaders facing each other were very low.
