“Shane Warne bought his last house from my in-laws,” Pakistan great shares unheard story

Great Pakistani fast bowler Wasim Akram praised great spin bowler Shane Warne and also talked about his relationship with the late Australian player. Despite playing for different countries, Wasim and Warne were close friends. Warne was a family friend of Akram’s Australian wife Shanira Thompson. Akram, who married Shanira in 2013, also revealed that Warne had bought a property that belonged to Pakistan’s legendary in-laws Tony Thompson and Greta. He said that Warne lived near his house.

“Players and leaders like Shane Warne are not born everyday in this world. I knew him personally very well. He lived just two minutes away from my house. In fact, I can tell you another interesting Shane Warne bought his last house from my in-laws – Tony Thompson and Greta,” Akram told Sportskeeda.

It is noteworthy that Warne holds the world record for taking the second highest number of wickets in Test cricket. He took 708 wickets in 145 matches across formats of the game.

What made them special was the somewhat unreal amount of spin that Warne extracted from the surface. Facing him was no less than a nightmare for many batsmen.

The legendary spin bowler, who also led Rajasthan Royals to the Indian Premier League title in the inaugural edition in 2008, passed away in March 2022.
