Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi said a decision on Shaheen Shah Afridi’s future as T20 captain will be taken after the conclusion of the national training camp in Kakul. According to PCB sources, wicketkeeper Mohammed Rizwan is expected to take over as captain in both white-ball formats. “Two to three things are being dealt with by the selection committee and the board and the selectors will take a decision on the captaincy after the training camp in Kakul,” Naqvi told reporters. “The selection committee has to do some brainstorming,” Naqvi said. , and sit together to decide on the captaincy,” he said, adding that his committee was in favor of continuity.
Shaheen replaced Babar Azam as T20I captain after Pakistan’s dismal performance in the ODI World Cup in India. The decision was taken by the former committee headed by Zaka Ashraf, who also appointed Shan Masood as the Test captain.
Shaheen’s success as captain of Lahore Qalandars, leading the team to back-to-back PSL titles, made him captain of the national team.
However, a 4-1 defeat in the five-match T20I series in New Zealand and finishing last in this edition of the PSL have certainly dampened his performance ahead of the T20 World Cup in June.
