According to official sources from the hospital, the feared gangster was admitted to the hospital around 8:25 pm. A team of nine doctors cared for him before his death, the release added.

Ansari was elected five times as a provincial councilor from a Mauritius parliamentary seat, twice as a candidate of the People’s Socialist Party. He has great influence in his hometown Ghazipur.

In April 2023, Mukhtar Ansari was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in jail by the MP MLA court for the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai. He was sentenced to life in prison on March 13, 2024, in a case related to the use of forged documents to obtain a weapons license in 1990.

Prior to this, in December 2023, the Varanasi MP/MLA court found Mukhtar Ansari guilty of threatening to murder witness Mahavir Prasad Rungta, a 26-year-old coal businessman Nand Kishor Rungta, and sentenced him to five years one term of imprisonment and one term of imprisonment. He was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for a period of six months and a fine of Rs 10,000.

On October 15 last year, the Enforcement Directorate had seized land, buildings and bank deposits worth over Rs 73.43 lakh as part of the money laundering probe against Mukhtar Ansari.
