Security tightened in parts of Delhi, Center notifies Citizenship Act CAA

New Delhi:

Security arrangements have been beefed up in northeast Delhi, Shaheen Bagh, Jamia and other sensitive areas of the national capital following the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) notification of 2019 on Monday, officials said.

Police and paramilitary forces were also deployed in some areas and flag marches were underway in parts of northeast and southeast Delhi, they said.

In 2020, Delhi witnessed communal riots over the CAA and NRC (National Register of Citizens).

“The safety of every common man in northeast Delhi is our responsibility,” Joy Tirkey, DCP Northeast, told PTI.

He also said that police and paramilitary forces in the Northeast region are stepping up patrols and inspections to ensure the safety of citizens in sensitive areas. Everyone must follow safety instructions, the official said.

“We have intensified night vigil along with paramilitary forces. No one will be allowed to disrupt law and order. We conducted a flag-hoisting march for the safety of every common man,” the DCP said.

Implementing rules for the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 were announced on Monday, paving the way for granting citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim immigrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

With the issuance of the CAA rules, the Modi government will now start granting Indian citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim immigrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan who came to India before December 31, 2014. These immigrants included Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis and Hindus. Christian.
