The driver of a school bus died of natural causes after a collision on the M53 in Wirral, a coroner has said.

Stephen Shrimpton, 40, was driving his children to West Kirby and Calday Grange Grammar School on September 29 when the bus passed away on the northbound carriageway. Collised and died unfortunately.

Jessica Baker, 15, one of about 50 students on board, also died.

The Liverpool Coroner’s Office said on Friday that the case was now closed as Mr Shrimpton died of natural causes.

No further details were disclosed.

The inquest previously heard CCTV showed the driver slumping over to his left side while driving.

The bus then left the road, climbed up the embankment, and eventually fell on its side.
