SC to hear JMM leader Hemant Soren’s plea against arrest on Friday

JMM leader Hemant Soren on Thursday moved the Supreme Court challenging the Enforcement Directorate’s arrest of him in a money laundering case. A bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra on Friday agreed to hear the plea of ​​the former Jharkhand chief minister.

Senior lawyers Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for Soren, told the Supreme Court that Soren would withdraw his plea in the Jharkhand High Court on the issue. Soren was arrested in connection with the case on Wednesday night after he resigned as Jharkhand chief minister, with party loyalist and state transport minister Champai Soren appointed as his successor.

He was arrested after a marathon seven-hour interrogation by the Enforcement Directorate in the case.
