Finance Minister announces connectivity and tourism infrastructure projects in Lakshwadeep

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday announced that the government aims to launch port connectivity and tourism infrastructure projects in Indian islands such as Lakshwadeep.

“Port connectivity and tourism infrastructure projects will be taken up in islands including Lakshwadeep,” Sitharaman said in her interim budget speech. On Thursday, Sitharaman submitted the budget for 2024-25 in a paperless form Mid-year budget, just like the previous three years.

A few weeks ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched and laid the foundation stone for multiple projects worth Rs 1,156 crore in Lakshadweep. The projects were launched at an event attended by hundreds of people during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to the Union Territory.

Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said his government’s top priority is to make life easier for every region and every citizen of India. “Today, the foundation stone of projects worth about Rs 1,200 crore has been laid and launched here. These projects span internet, power, water, health and childcare,” he said in January.

Attacking his predecessor, the Prime Minister said that for governments that remained at the Center decades after independence, their priority was only the growth of political parties. “Far away countries, border areas or areas in the middle of the ocean have not received any attention. In the last ten years, our government has prioritized these states,” he told the people in Kavarati.
