Something unique was seen in IPL 2024 on Friday. Something that has never happened in the history of cricket. For the first time, a team chased a score of more than 260 in the T20 format. And it was achieved by an Indian Premier League team – Punjab Kings. Chasing a total of 262 runs, hardly anyone would have given PBKS a chance, but then their batsman had something else in mind. Jonny Bairstow (108*), Prabhsimran Singh (54), Shashank Singh (68*) made equal contributions as PBKS achieved the world record.

262 – Punjab Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders, Kolkata, IPL 2024
259 – South Africa vs West Indies, Centurion, 2023
253 – Middlesex vs Surrey, The Oval, T20 Blast 2023

262 – PBKS vs KKR, Kolkata, 2024
224 – RR vs PBKS, Sharjah, 2020
The successful pursuit also raised a very relevant question. Is the game only for batsmen?
Former Punjab Kings captain and great spin bowler R Ashwin praised the bowlers in the middle of the match. “Save the bowlers please no SOS SOS SOS #KKRvsPBKS #IPL2024,” he posted on Twitter.
“Save the bowlers” please someone

“This is a ball for the last 2 overs of a T20 game chasing a target of 260+. Let it sink in. #IPL2024 #KKRvsPBKS.”

“How do you define a game like this?? I think ‘historic’ is the only way to describe it. The target of 262 runs was successfully achieved with 8 balls and 8 wickets to spare. What else is possible? ??” Former Indian player Aakash Chopra wrote on X.
“The batsmen have unleashed their true potential…the bowlers have been given the responsibility to be better than the batsmen…it’s adaptation and evolution. #IPL #KKRVPBKS”
How do you define a game like this??
I guess ‘historic’ is the only way to describe it.The target of 262 runs was successfully achieved with 8 balls and 8 wickets remaining. What else is possible???
The batsmen have unleashed their true potential…the bowlers have to do what they do better than that…
