Samajwadi Party Fields Lalu Yadav's Son-In-Law Tej Pratap From Kannauj

Tej Pratap is the grandson of Ranveer Singh, brother of SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Lucknow:

Putting an end to speculations that Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav will contest elections from Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh, the party has fielded Tej Pratap Singh Yadav from the parliamentary seat.

This seat was once represented by party chief Akhilesh Yadav and his wife Dimple.

Tej Pratap, former MP from Mainpuri and nephew of Akhilesh Yadav, is also the son-in-law of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav. He is married to Lalu’s daughter Raj Lakshmi Yadav.

Tej Pratap is the grandson of Ranveer Singh, brother of SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav. He was MP from Mainpuri from 2014 to 2019.

Apart from Tej Pratap, the Yadav family members are contesting from Mainpuri, Azamgarh, Badaun and Ferozabad Lok Sabha seats.

The party has fielded Sanatan Pandey against BJP’s Neeraj Shekhar from Ballia.

Pandey had earlier also contested elections from here in 2019 on SP ticket but lost to BJP’s Virendra Singh Mast.

Neeraj Shekhar, son of former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar, was a Lok Sabha MP from 2007 to 2014, representing the SP from Ballia, which was earlier his father’s constituency.

In 2014, Shekhar lost the election to his BJP rival and was nominated to the Rajya Sabha.

SP did not field him in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, after which he left SP and joined BJP, which sent him to the Upper House of Parliament.

Voting will be held in Ballia Lok Sabha constituency on June 1.

In the 2019 general elections, the BJP emerged victorious, securing 62 out of 80 seats, apart from its ally Apna Dal (S) which won two seats. Mayawati’s BSP managed to secure 10 seats, while Akhilesh Yadav’s SP got five seats. In contrast, the Congress party won only one seat.

Meanwhile, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday fiercely targeted BJP and PM Modi, accusing them of not having respect for the Constitution.

He said, “The lies that people holding top positions in BJP are spreading against Congress by saying absurd things in election rallies are only exposing BJP’s lies.” On one hand they are claiming that they will win 400 seats, on the other hand they want to get some votes in the elections by scaring the public by saying what will happen if the opposition wins…The truth is that the middle class, which has a Or two pieces. Abhushan is also voting against BJP because middle and lower middle class people are also affected by unemployment and inflation,” he said in a post on X.

”Taking the name of a particular community and saying wrong things about it is an insult to that community spread across the world. At the international level, this has hurt the country’s secular and democratic identity. This is a highly objectionable statement which cannot be forgiven…Only those people whose intention is to destroy the Constitution can use such unconstitutional language.”
