Warsaw:

Poland’s military said on Sunday that a Russian cruise missile violated Polish airspace when it was fired at a town in western Ukraine. The Army wrote on social media platform

“The object flew through Polish airspace over the village of Oserdow, Lublin Voivodeship and remained there for 39 seconds,” the statement added.

The Polish military said the missile was tracked by military radar throughout its flight.

“The Polish army has been monitoring the situation on Ukrainian territory and maintains a state of permanent alert to ensure the security of Polish airspace,” the Polish army said.

Poland activated air defense procedures during the incident, the Polish Armed Forces Combat Command said in a statement.

A similar incident occurred on December 29, 2023, when a Russian missile penetrated Polish airspace for several minutes before returning to Ukraine.

In November 2022, a Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile landed in the Polish village of Przevodov near the Ukrainian border, killing two people.

Before the missile was identified as a Ukrainian missile, there were concerns that NATO, of which Poland is a member, would be dragged into an escalation of conflict with Russia if collective defense clauses were triggered.
