The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering doubling the remuneration for domestic players. According to a report in Cricbuzz, the national selection committee led by chairman Ajit Agarkar has been tasked by the BCCI to help implement the idea. The sole purpose of this idea is to ensure that non-IPL players do not feel deprived. Currently, BCCI pays Rs 60,000 per day to a player who plays more than 40 Ranji games.

Similarly, players get Rs 50,000 and Rs 40,000 for playing 21-40 matches and 20 matches respectively.

Meanwhile, reserve players earn Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 per day in the respective categories. Overall, a senior player can earn up to Rs 25 lakh if his team reaches the finals, while other players in the team earn between Rs 17 lakh and Rs 22 lakh.

“It is understood that various plans are being considered, but there is a consensus among all relevant parties in the BCCI that the fees for domestic cricketers should at least double,” the report claimed.

The report also said that the BCCI is considering increasing the pay scale to between Rs 75 lakh to Rs 1 crore if a player plays in 10 Ranji Trophy matches.

Players like Vijay Hazare and Mushtaq Ali will also earn more for playing in domestic white ball tournaments.

Although there has been no confirmation regarding this development, the report also suggests that changes could be made as early as the next season.

The move is aimed at encouraging domestic players to participate in the Ranji Trophy and maximize the earnings of domestic stars who are not playing in the IPL.

Earlier this year, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had announced higher match fees for Test match players.

Praising this announcement, former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar had suggested doubling or tripling the fees of domestic cricketers. “If Ranji Trophy fees can be doubled or tripled, then definitely a lot more people will play Ranji Trophy, and a lot less people will move away from Ranji Trophy, because if the fees to play a Ranji Trophy match are a good fee, for various reasons Less people will come out,” the cricket legend had said last month.
