Rohit Sharma to join CSK next year, Ruturaj Gaikwad ‘just holding on’ to job: England great shines in MI captaincy race Cricket News

Former England captain Michael Vaughan believes Mumbai Indians batsman Rohit Sharma could end up joining Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of next season’s Indian Premier League (IPL). There was a lot of discussion surrounding Rohit’s future as MI after the team removed him as captain and put Hardik Pandya in charge of the team. Fans were not happy with the team replacing Rohit with Hardik, who has been booed everywhere he has played so far this season, including the home fans.

While there are rumors that Rohit may be released by MI ahead of the IPL mega auction in 2025, Warne believes that CSK could be a possible destination for Rohit.

“Will he (Rohit Sharma) go to Chennai and replace Dhoni? Gaikwad is doing that (captaincy) this year and next year it might just be to reserve a place for Rohit (an act). I saw him in Chennai,” Warne said on the BeerBiceps podcast.

For the uninitiated, CSK also saw a change in leadership with MS Dhoni handing over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad.

However, the show host feels that Rohit joining CSK will be “heartbreaking” for MI fans.

The podcast host replied: “Honestly, it would be heartbreaking. It would be too bad for MI fans. I wouldn’t mind him going to (Sunrisers) Hyderabad; he plays for Deccan Chargers, so that’s It will be more romantic.”

Talking about MI’s captaincy drama, Warne threw his weight behind Hardik but suggested that Rohit should be the captain of the team.

“Hardik is going through a tough time and it’s not his fault. He was asked to captain Mumbai Indians; who could say no? He got a job that every Indian cricketer wants. MI It’s been a tricky few years and I just don’t think the communication was right.”

“I personally would captain Rohit. Hardik’s return to MI is stressful enough in itself and Rohit will obviously be India’s T20 captain. A smart move would be to consider Rohit as captain of MI along with Hardik Next year or two years,” Vaughn said.
