Robert Vadra, husband of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, has once again hinted that he is ready to enter politics “if people want it”. On Monday, he said he had received calls of support from party workers across the country, including in the Uttar Pradesh state of Amethi.

“It’s not just Amiti, I have the support of party workers across the country to be active in politics. Yes, I admit that Amiti’s part (who contested the Lok Sabha polls from the constituency) is becoming more prominent, Since I have campaigned there since 1999, my posters have started appearing elsewhere as well, as people recognize and admire the efforts we have put in so far,” Mr. Vadra told IANS in an exclusive interview.

Amity was long a stronghold of the Gandhi family until Smriti Irani won the seat in 2019.

However, Mr Vadra believes it is time for the people of Amiti to correct the “mistakes” made in electing the Islamic Republic of Iran five years ago.

“They (Amethi people) believe that if I contest from there, they will have the option to right the wrong of electing Smritiji. I believe that if I contest, they will ensure that I win with a huge margin. However, I will not despite Smritiji’s past objections to I have made unsubstantiated accusations but I will still try to challenge someone,” Mr Vadra said.

The 55-year-old businessman from Moradabad also said that he would extend his full support to Rahul Gandhi if he decides to contest the elections from Amisi.

“If Rahul feels that he should fight from Amitsi after Wayanad too, I will fully support him and be with him during his campaign. Also, I don’t need to be active in politics to interact with the people .They know they can always come and meet me if Rahul or Priyanka are not available,” he said.
