British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was slammed by users and fashion watchers on social media for wearing an Adidas Samba look during a recent interview at 10 Downing Street. They were upset by Sunak’s choice and claimed “he ruined everyone’s lives”.

During Sunak’s interview to promote the government’s tax policy, the 43-year-old leader wore gray, white and black sneakers from a well-known German sportswear brand, paired with a white shirt, navy chinos and black socks.

Adidas describes the Sambas as “legendary shoes with a rich history” and are considered trendy shoes, something footwear enthusiasts say Sunak undermines by trying to appear trendy.

After facing backlash online, Sunak issued a “comprehensive apology” and said he had been a “long-term fan” of Adidas “for many years”.

Speaking on LBC radio, Sunak said: “I offer my sincere apologies to the Samba community. However, in my defence, I would like to say that I have worn Adidas sneakers for many years, including the Samba Sneakers, and in fact other sneakers.” “.

He said he got his first pair of Adidas sneakers as a Christmas present from his brother and said he never looked back from that point on. “So I’ve been a long-time devotee,” he said.

Sunak said he purchased the Adidas sneakers seen in the video. “I did buy the pair (in the video), but I’ve been wearing Adidas sneakers for a long time,” he added.

The British leader, who has also been criticized for the short length of his trousers, said he was “curious and amused by the attention paid to what I was wearing”.

British GQ magazine said that “Rishi Sunak ruined it by wearing an always-cool sneaker in an effort to show off his youthful, stylish look.”

Footwear historian Elizabeth Semmelhack told The Times that Sunak’s choice could be the “death knell” for the samba sneaker.
