The Directorate General of Goods and Services Tax Intelligence (DGGI) has recently come to notice that some individuals with fraudulent intentions are creating and sending false summons to taxpayers who may or may not be under investigation by the DGGI, CBIC said in a statement.
“Fake summonses issued may appear genuine because they have Document Identification Numbers (DINs), but the DIN numbers of these entities are not issued by DGGI. To address this issue, DGGI has been taking serious steps to notify the police and File complaints with police and target those involved in the creation and delivery of false and fraudulent summonses.”
How to verify a GST summons?

CBIC said taxpayers can verify the authenticity of any communication from the department, including subpoenas, using the “Verify CBIC-DIN” window on the CBIC website or the DIN utility search on the Data Directorate’s (DDM) online portal, China Business bank.
