Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have once again found themselves in a similar situation, registering just one win in their first five games of the season. Questions continue to arise over the poor performance of the RCB management, captain Faf du Plessis and the players. Wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik made an interesting comment by saying that cricket as a sport “remains captain-driven”. Karthik made these remarks during a podcast chat with RCB Michael Vaughan. Much of the discussion centered around head coach Andy Flower and his impact on the team.

Katic said Flower is one of the best people he has ever worked with. However, the veteran cricketer also clarified that the team’s current results do not speak to what Flower has done as cricket is still a captain-driven sport, unlike football where the coach can play a bigger role role.

“I think he (Flower) is one of the best players I’ve ever played with because of the clarity of his thinking. It’s a great example of that because the support staff can only do so much. It’s captain-driven. “It’s not like football or basketball where the coach plays such an important role on the pitch,” Katic told Sky Sports. “

“If I could make an analogy, (like) leading a horse to water, he’s done that. He’s given us everything possible; not just in terms of clarity and character, but in terms of giving us space, understanding , traveling…(also) giving us time to rest after games. The way he’s managed us so far, I really think he’s been outstanding.

Karthik also had high praise for RCB director of cricket operations Mo Bobat.

“And Mobo Butt, he’s unbelievable as well. It would be really unfair if I didn’t say they’re two of the best guys I’ve ever played with. I know it’s only been five games, I know you.” I’d be thinking ‘he’s only won one and lost four and he just keeps praising them’, but honestly the back end is as good as you can get,” Katic added.
