Not just Chennai, the whole of India loves MS Dhoni. But the former captain’s fans at Chepauk, home of the Indian Premier League’s Chennai Super Kings, are unparalleled. Dhoni has considered Chennai his second home over the years. Even at 42 years old, the noise from the fans every time Dhoni comes out to bat is still deafening. In fact, sometimes, if Dhoni bats next, fans in Chennai cheer for the dismissal of their own team’s batsman.

Dhoni has been batting at Nos. 7 and 8 this season and against Kolkata Knight Riders, he promoted himself to No. 5 as the match was already won. Ruturaj Gaikwad remained unbeaten on 67 and Dhoni scored one run from three balls to help CSK beat KKR by 7 wickets.

However, CSK players are having fun not only on the field but also on the dugout. Just after Shivam Dube was dismissed, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was the first to come out of the dugout to bat. However, this was just to tease the home fans. Jadeja then quickly returned to the bench, paving the way for Dhoni to come on.

Jadeja was adjudged the man of the match for his outstanding performance with the ball, taking 3 wickets and scoring 18 runs in 4 overs.

“Always enjoy my bowling on these tracks. Just trying to bowl in good areas. I’ve practiced a lot here – if you bowl in good areas it helps you. The visiting team needs time to settle in and plan Some things… it was hard for them to come in here and recognize the surface. We knew the situation very well,” he said after the game.

After defeating KKR, CSK has recorded three wins in five games, three of which were at home.
